Unprofitable Businesses in Russia Reach 34.4% in Q1

In the first quarter of 2026, the share of loss-making companies in Russia reached 34.4%, up from 31.1% a year earlier, according to data from Rosstat (the Russian Federal State Statistics Service).

Over the reporting period, the consolidated financial result of companies before taxation (excluding small businesses, state and municipal institutions, credit and non-credit financial institutions) amounted to 11.297 trillion rubles ($135 billion), or 99% of the same period last year. Specifically, 41,900 companies reported profits totaling 15.363 trillion rubles ($184 billion), a decrease of 5.8% year-on-year, while 22,000 companies reported losses totaling 4.065 trillion rubles ($49 billion), a decrease of 17%.
