### Russia Bans Foreign Login Systems for Local Websites Starting July 7, a new law in Russia prohibits the use of foreign authentication systems for Russian websites and apps. Website owners must now authenticate Russian users exclusively through domestic tools, such as phone numbers, the national "Gosuslugi" (state services) portal, biometric data, or other information systems owned by Russian citizens or legal entities. The ban applies only to website owners, both individuals and companies. Violators face fines: individuals risk fines of 10,000-20,000 rubles ($130-260), officials face fines of 30,000-50,000 rubles ($390-650), and companies face fines of 500,000-700,000 rubles ($6,500-9,100). Repeat offenders may be fined up to 1.4 million rubles ($18,200). Users will not be penalized for having foreign accounts, and existing accounts created through foreign email services will remain valid.
