Former commander of the 44th Army Corps of the Leningrad Military District, Major General Alexander Dembitsky, has been arrested on fraud charges, according to a report by RBC, citing a decision by the 235th Garrison Military Court.

According to sources, Dembitsky has been charged with fraud on a massive scale within the private military company (PMC) "Yastreb" (Russian for "Hawk"). The investigation alleges that he orchestrated a fraudulent scheme involving payments to military personnel. A total of 89 Russian servicemen have been recognized as victims in the case. Dembitsky has denied any wrongdoing.

  • Previously, there were reports of an ongoing criminal investigation into fraud within the PMC "Yastreb". The founder of the PMC, Alexei Maruchenko, is already under arrest. The investigation believes that Maruchenko and a group of individuals linked to him were involved in fraudulent activities related to the recruitment of new recruits for the elite unit.
