Mortgage Loans in Russia Surge 46% Since Start of Year

From January to May 2026, Russian banks issued 389,400 mortgage loans to individuals worth a total of 1.732 trillion rubles. Year-on-year, the volume of mortgage lending increased by 45.8%, while the number of loans grew by 43.6%, according to the Central Bank of Russia (CBR).

As of June 1, the total mortgage debt of Russian citizens reached 24.3 trillion rubles, up 10.4% year-on-year.

In May, the average weighted interest rate on mortgages was 10.18%. The average market-based rate stood at 17.7%, while the rate for shared ownership agreements (Russian-specific scheme where buyers pay for a property during its construction) was 7.4%.
