The Russian Investigative Committee (SK) had proposed lowering the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years old, but the initiative did not gain support, according to TASS. This was announced by the head of the agency, Alexander Bastrykin, during his speech at the International Youth Legal Forum, which is part of the St. Pyotrsburg International Legal Forum.
Bastrykin stated that the Investigative Committee had suggested amending the current legislation to impose criminal responsibility on adolescents starting from the age of 12. However, this proposal did not receive backing.
"We proposed lowering the age of criminal responsibility for teenagers to 12 years, but we did not find support," Bastrykin said.
The head of the Investigative Committee did not specify which types of crimes the proposed changes would have applied to or at what stage of discussion the initiative was rejected.
