Overdue wage arrears in Russia surge 78.1% year-on-year

By the end of May 2026, the total amount of overdue wage arrears in Russia reached 2.96 billion rubles, according to Rosstat (the Russian Federal State Statistics Service).

In one month, wage debts of enterprises increased by 81 million rubles or 2.8%. Year-on-year, the indicator grew by 78.1%.

It is noted that the majority of the total debt amount (1.7 billion rubles or 57.3%) was formed in 2026. Debts from 2025 account for 32.2%, while the remaining part (10.5%) is from earlier periods.

The highest level of debt is observed among processing industry enterprises (30.1% of the total volume), construction (27.2%), electricity, gas, and steam supply (20%), and mining (6.3%).
