### Russian Online Shoppers to Face Different Payments for Cross-Border Purchases Russian consumers buying imported goods through foreign marketplaces will be subject to varying taxes depending on the value of their purchases, according to Alexei Sazanov, Deputy Finance Minister of Russia, speaking at the St. Pyotrsburg International Economic Forum. For goods valued over 200 euros, a combined tax regime will be implemented. Buyers will have to pay both Value Added Tax (VAT) and customs duties when importing such items into Russia. For purchases below 200 euros, a simpler taxation system will remain in place. These goods will only be subject to VAT, without additional customs fees. Sazanov explained that the new system involves a division of responsibilities between government agencies. The Federal Tax Service will oversee the control of goods worth up to 200 euros, working in conjunction with marketplaces that will take on part of the payment administration responsibilities. Meanwhile, the Federal Customs Service will handle the processing and control of more expensive shipments. The aim of this approach is to streamline the handling of large volumes of low-cost international orders while ensuring comprehensive customs control over higher-value shipments. The changes are intended to improve the regulation of cross-border e-commerce and distribute responsibilities between market participants and government bodies.
