More than 50 foreign journalists from 19 countries have arrived in Starobelsk to cover the aftermath of a strike on a college, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova announced.

The media group, which has already reached the city, includes journalists from Austria, Brazil, Britain, Hungary, Venezuela, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Qatar, China, Cuba, Lebanon, Pakistan, the United States, Turkey, Finland, France and the United Arab Emirates.

In a post on her Telegram channel, Zakharova noted that Japanese authorities had prohibited their journalists from taking part in the trip. The BBC officially declined to participate, while CNN did not send correspondents "due to vacations."

The Russian side had earlier announced the organization of a visit to the site of the tragedy for foreign journalists following statements by Western representatives at the UN Security Council that there had allegedly been no strike on the college in Starobelsk.
