The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has called for greater transparency in pricing mechanisms on the Russian fish market. The agency has completed an analysis of wholesale prices for the most popular fish species, including Alaska pollock, cod, haddock, pink salmon, and Pacific herring.

According to FAS, one of the key factors in stabilizing prices could be reducing the number of intermediaries between fish harvesting, processing, and final sales to consumers. The service believes that optimizing the logistics and trade chain would help reduce additional costs on the product.

Currently, the agency is also analyzing data collected after the introduction of mandatory registration of over-the-counter transactions in the fish market. This analysis is expected to inform further steps aimed at increasing price formation transparency.

FAS emphasized that additional regulatory measures aimed at enhancing market openness and preventing unjustified price increases may be developed following the review.

Special attention is being paid to transportation costs, which significantly impact the final product price. The agency, in collaboration with relevant entities, has explored the possibility of expanding fish transportation from the Far East using preferential railway tariffs. This initiative is expected to reduce logistics costs and make fish products more affordable for consumers.
