Steel consumption by Russian metal construction manufacturers fell by 17% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 1.2 million tons, according to Kommersant.

Despite the decline, the first-quarter consumption figure exceeded the end-of-2025 level.

Market participants hope that the industry has "hit rock bottom," but the true state of demand stability will only become clear by the end of the second quarter. Overall, experts anticipate stagnation in the first half of the year and very modest growth in the second half, provided the Central Bank continues to lower interest rates and unlocks lending.
