Steel consumption by Russian metal construction manufacturers fell by 17% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 1.2 million tons, according to Kommersant.

Despite the decline, the first-quarter consumption figure exceeded the end-of-2025 level.

Market participants hope that the industry has "hit rock bottom," but the true state of demand stability will only become clear by the end of the second quarter.
