The Council of the European Union has completed the approval process for the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions and financial aid worth €90 billion for Ukraine in 2026-2027, Council President Antonio Costa announced.
"We promised, we delivered, we made it happen. Today we have advanced on both fronts. We have unlocked €90 billion for Ukraine, ensuring its military and budgetary needs for 2026-2027. We have also adopted the 20th sanctions package against Russia," Costa said, as quoted by TASS.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU will proceed with "swift implementation of decisions on both fronts" — increasing pressure on Russia and providing assistance to Kyiv.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that the bloc will provide Ukraine with "all necessary support to hold its positions."
Earlier, EU ambassadors (on April 22) approved a new sanctions package against Russia and financial assistance to Ukraine after Hungary and Slovakia lifted their vetoes.
