The European Commission (EC) plans to adopt the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions, removing the requirement to ban the transportation of Russian oil and the provision of services for these shipments, including insurance, according to a diplomatic source in Brussels cited by TASS.

According to the source, the EC insists on adopting the new sanctions package in a reduced form. It is noted that the European business involved in tanker transportation is suffering huge losses due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

A complete ban on the transportation of Russian oil was one of the central points of the 20th sanctions package proposed by the EC in January 2026. It also proposed allocating 90 billion euros to Ukraine. The new package of restrictions was supposed to be adopted by the anniversary of the special military operation (SVO), but Hungary and Slovakia blocked it because Kyiv blocked the transit of Russian oil through the "Druzhba" pipeline.
