Parallel imports in Russia have stabilized at $1-1.5 billion per month, according to Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. He believes this figure will remain at this level until the end of the year.
"We are starting to produce many products domestically, and we are no longer interested in having this non-competitive mechanism of parallel imports. However, it is too early to completely abandon it. There are still certain items that are of interest to Russia," Alikhanov was quoted as saying by Interfax.
(Parallel imports refer to the importation of goods into a country without the consent of the original manufacturer or trademark holder, often to circumvent trade restrictions or sanctions.)
