The Russian government has introduced a temporary permit system for exporting domestic helium to countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), TASS reports, citing its own source.

Under the new rules, which will come into effect upon official publication of the government decree and remain in place until the end of 2027, Russian helium exports beyond the EAEU will only be allowed with special authorization.

Decisions on approving helium exports will be made by the prime minister, first deputy prime minister, or a relevant deputy head of the cabinet based on proposals from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The government explained that the measure aims to ensure stable supply of this strategically important raw material to the domestic market. Helium is used in industrial production, including the manufacture of fiber optic products and other high-tech goods.
