Russia and India have begun exploring the resumption of direct LNG supplies from Russia, according to Reuters citing sources.
India has already requested an exemption from the U.S. for not complying with anti-Russian sanctions, noting that it has not purchased Russian LNG since 2022. If the decision is made, negotiations on LNG deliveries could be concluded within several weeks.
According to Reuters, gas supply negotiations between Russia and India took place last week during a meeting between Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin and Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi. At that time, the parties also agreed to increase deliveries of raw Russian oil to India, which could double compared to January of this year.
Earlier, it was reported that the U.S. had granted India a temporary permit to purchase Russian oil located on tankers at sea. The easing of sanctions was due to the escalation of conflict in the Middle East.
