### Shipping Through the Strait of Hormuz Comes to Near Standstill
The movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz has almost completely halted, with the number of passing ships reduced to single digits, according to data from the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC).
As of March 5, only two commercial cargo ships (not oil tankers) were recorded passing through the Strait over a 24-hour period. This is a sharp contrast to the average of around 200 ships per day before the escalation of conflict in the region.
JMIC experts noted that the threat level for ships in the Strait remains critical, with attacks on commercial vessels continuing.
- Iran imposed a ban on all movement through the Strait of Hormuz following the start of a military operation by the U.S. and Israel on February 28. The Strait is a key route for transporting raw materials, including oil and fertilizers.
