India has been granted a temporary license to purchase Russian oil already loaded on tankers at sea, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a post on X. The decision was made to increase global energy supply amid the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran.

"To ensure oil continues to flow into the global market, the Treasury Department has issued a temporary 30-day license allowing Indian refineries to purchase Russian oil. This deliberately short-term measure will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government, as it only permits transactions involving oil already at sea," Bessent emphasized.
