Russia may introduce total asset confiscation as a punishment in the fight against corruption, according to an initiative proposed by the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin.

"I believe the time has come to introduce total confiscation of all assets acquired by corrupt officials as a criminal penalty. This measure has been long-awaited by society and will ensure significant revenues for the state treasury," Bastrykin said during an expanded meeting of the annual final plenary session of the agency.

He noted that in 2025, the agency investigated 14,000 criminal cases related to corruption, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the previous year.

Additionally, Bastrykin suggested stripping Russian citizenship for anyone convicted of a serious or particularly serious crime.
