Russian sugar prices dropped by 7.4% in 2025, reaching 67.9 rubles per kilogram, making it one of the most affordable basic food products of the year, according to Kommersant citing data from Rosstat and research company NTech.

Experts attribute this trend to increased sugar production and stagnant consumption. Retail sales of sugar in natural terms grew by 9% year-on-year from January to September 2025, while in monetary terms they increased by 6%.

With rising sugar production, producer prices have fallen by 22% from June 2024 to December 2025, reaching 42,530 rubles per ton.

Preliminary results show that the sugar beet harvest in 2025 exceeded the long-term average, reaching about 47-48 million tons. This translates into approximately 6.7 million tons of sugar, which is 4% higher than the long-term average.
