Russian State Duma Receives Bill Offering Social Guarantees to Veterans of Special Military Operations

A bill has been submitted to the Russian State Duma that would provide social guarantees to veterans of special military operations (SVO) in case of staff reductions at their previous place of employment. The bill has already received support from the government.

Under current legislation, employment contracts for employees who leave for military service are suspended, but their job positions are preserved. After completing their service, employees have three months to return to their previous job. The new version of the law would grant additional social guarantees to SVO veterans, giving them priority in retaining their job positions during staff reductions (provided they have equal qualifications and productivity).

This measure would apply to participants in combat operations during mobilization, wartime, or periods of martial law. The law could come into effect on September 1, 2026.
