Vegetables in the borscht set have become one-third cheaper year-on-year

In December 2025, the cost of vegetables in the borscht set, which includes potatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots, and onions, decreased by 28% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Association of Omnichannel Retail Companies (AKORT). According to AKORT, socially significant products as a whole became cheaper by 9.3% over the year, with prices falling in 16 out of 25 product categories. The most noticeable price reductions were seen in rice (-41%), white cabbage (-38%), potatoes (-31%), onions (-25%), salt (-24%), butter (-22.5%), beets (-22%), carrots (-19.7%). Also, chicken eggs (-16.9%), sugar (-15%), flour (-14%), beef (-11%), vermicelli (-9.3%), mutton (-8%), millet (-2.4%), and milk (-2.3%) became cheaper. In December, the average retail markup on socially significant goods in federal retail chains was 3%, which is 1.8 percentage points lower than in 2024, and a negative markup was recorded for several product categories. Carrots (-10.4%), white cabbage (-7.6%), rice (-4.1%), chicken eggs (-2.2%), sunflower oil (-1.8%), beef (-0.4%), and apples (-0.3%) were sold at prices below their purchase cost. It is noted that in December, compared to November, prices for socially significant products increased on average by 0.5%. Prices went up for onions (+8.5%), carrots (+5.8%), potatoes (+5.6%), beets (+3.3%), and white cabbage (+2.2%). Prices fell for salt (-5.7%), buckwheat (-5.2%), rice (-3.2%), butter (-1.6%), flour (-1.2%), pork (-0.7%), bakery products (-0.6%), broiler chicken (-0.4%), vermicelli (-0.3%), sugar (-0.3%), and rye bread (-0.3%).
