Starting from December 26, 2025, a new version of the 1000-ruble banknote will be introduced into circulation in Russia, according to the Central Bank. The updated banknote is dedicated to Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Federal District. On its front side, it features the Nikolskaya Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, while the reverse side depicts the Saratov automobile bridge, the Palace of Landworkers in Kazan, and the Meteor-120R hydrofoil vessel. The banknote retains its color palette (executed in turquoise tones) and features an enhanced security system. The updated "thousand" will circulate alongside the banknotes of the 1997 series.
