Deputies of the State Duma have adopted a law lowering the age at which individuals are required to take an oath in connection with acquiring Russian citizenship. Now, it will be necessary to swear allegiance to the motherland at the age of 14 instead of the previous 18 years old. The law specifically states that if within one year from the date of the decision to accept a person as a Russian citizen, the individual refuses to take the oath or fails to appear for the oath, the decision will be annulled.
