SRS Has Initiated a Criminal Case Regarding the Plane Crash Involving An-22 Aircraft

The Russian Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case on the incident of the crash of a military transport aircraft An-22 "Antей" in the Ivanovo region. According to sources cited by "Kommersant", the aircraft crashed during routine maintenance work. The preliminary assumption is that the cause was a technical malfunction. According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft began to disintegrate in the air before crashing into a local reservoir. Seven people on board (five crew members and two passengers) died. The bodies, as well as the cockpit recorders, are being searched for by divers. It is noted that the aircraft had been in operation for more than 50 years and was the last An-22 in service in Russia.
