On the night of September 16, the Israeli Armed Forces launched full-scale ground operations in Gaza City. The territory of the sector was subjected to intense shelling, accompanied by powerful explosions.

According to the statement of the army representatives, the purpose of the operation is to establish full control over the city and neutralize the militants of the Hamas movement. In recent hours, 37 pinpoint strikes have been carried out, including attacks using helicopter aircraft.

On the eve of the offensive, the Israeli authorities called on about a million local residents to leave the war zone and move to specially organized humanitarian corridors. According to the latest data, approximately 300,000 people were able to evacuate.

The active ground operation was preceded by massive airstrikes that were carried out throughout Monday. Six hours after the bombing began, tank units entered the border areas.

It is noteworthy that military activity increased sharply a few hours after the meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The nature of the negotiations and their possible connection with the start of the operation were not disclosed.
