Russians began to buy cigarettes and smoking tobacco less. This is evidenced by the data "Contour.Market", reports TASS.
The experts analyzed 21.2 million receipts issued in stores across the country in June-August 2025 and compared them with data for the same period last year. Thus, sales of cigarettes fell by 17%, smoking tobacco - by 19%. At the same time, prices for these products went up. Cigarettes rose in price by 13%, smoking tobacco - by 8%. Cigarette sales declined the most in the Novosibirsk Region (-30%), the Perm Region and the Tyumen Region (-29%), and the Sverdlovsk Region (-24%). In Moscow, unlike in other regions, demand increased by 2%. Among the regions where tobacco prices increased the most were St. Petersburg (+19%), the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Moscow (+16%), and the Sverdlovsk Region (+15%). The most noticeable decrease in tobacco sales was recorded in the Tyumen Region (-33%), the Sverdlovsk Region (-31%), the Novosibirsk Region (-28%), and the Perm Region (-22%). Prices for smoking tobacco have risen in most regions, especially in Moscow (+26%) and St. Petersburg (+25%). A decrease in tobacco prices was recorded only in the Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories - by 14% and 12%, respectively.
