Heirs will be exempt from fines for late payments on loans from their deceased relatives

The State Duma adopted a law on the protection of heirs from penalties on debts of deceased borrowers. According to the document, from September 1, 2025, banks and microfinance organizations will be required to suspend the accrual of penalties, penalties and fines on the debts of a deceased client at the time of inheritance registration by his relatives.

The protection measure applies to all types of credit obligations, including consumer loans and mortgages. The suspension of accruals will be valid for six months from the date of the opening of the inheritance, unless a law or a court decision sets another deadline for the entry into inheritance rights.

The new law is aimed at facilitating the inheritance procedure and protecting the relatives of the deceased borrower from additional financial burdens.
