The Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, again discussed key international issues during a telephone conversation, which was the third in recent weeks.

The talks, which lasted for almost an hour, touched upon several hot topics: the escalation in the Middle East. The sides exchanged views on the recent Israeli strike on Iran and its implications for regional security. The negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, as well as the process of prisoner of war exchange between Russia and Ukraine, and other bilateral issues were discussed around Ukraine, But, according to the Kremlin, the conversation was constructive.

The current conversation was the third in recent times. In May, the leaders of the two powers discussed economic cooperation and regional conflicts, and in early June they held consultations on arms control issues.Such a frequency of contacts may indicate attempts by Washington and Moscow to establish a more predictable dialogue against the backdrop of a difficult international situation.

Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, confirmed that the parties remain in touch, but no information has yet been provided about a possible face-to-face meeting.

Analysts point out that despite their differences, both Moscow and Washington are interested in point-to-point cooperation, especially on issues where their interests partially overlap (for example, nuclear nonproliferation or the stability of energy markets).

The next talks could take place as early as July, ahead of the G7 summit, where Trump is likely to coordinate positions with his allies on Russia.
