In two years, the first wooden residential buildings with a height of up to five floors may appear in Russia, RIA Novosti informs, citing Vladimir Koshelev, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services.
The Deputy Chairman of the committee noted that the buildings are considered as a competitive, but not the cheapest construction option at the initial cost per square meter. Currently, the Ministry of Construction, together with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, is conducting tests and preparing amendments to the regulatory framework. It is planned to carry out a complex of scientific research and development work. They are aimed at ensuring fire, mechanical and seismic safety of wooden structures. There is already experience in the construction of wooden apartment buildings in the Russian Federation: four-storey houses in Tver Torzhok, in Vologda Sokol, and a house with 16 apartments in the Novosibirsk village of Lozhok. In Arkhangelsk, a wooden apartment building was commissioned in 2022.
The Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services named the terms of operation of a wooden apartment building. It ranges from 50 to 80 years old.
