The former head of the communications Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, was sentenced to seven years in a penal colony for a particularly large bribe. The corresponding decision was made by the Moscow garrison Military Court, TASS reports.

In addition to imprisonment, Shamarin was banned from holding positions in the civil service for seven years, and he was also stripped of his military rank.

The state prosecution requested 12 years in prison and a fine of 107 million rubles for Shamarin.

Shamarin was arrested in May 2024. He was charged with receiving a bribe of 36 million rubles from the general director of the plant "Telta" for patronage in concluding state contracts with the Ministry of Defense. Shamarin admitted his guilt.
