Fishing rates in the Azov-Black Sea basin have been restored after the tanker crash and oil spill in the Kerch Strait. This is reported by TASS with reference to the data of the All-Russian Association of Fishermen (VARPE).

According to the association, due to the emergency in the Kerch Strait and uncertainty due to the possible negative impact on the safety of aquatic biological resources, Russian fish producers were forced to move to other fishing areas. This led to a slight reduction in production at the beginning of the year.

Currently, the production of the main fishing facility, the hamsa, has returned to normal, although it is being conducted at a considerable distance from the coast and the emergency site.

As of March 10, 2025, the catch of fish in the Azov-Black Sea basin amounted to 10.8 thousand tons (9.8 thousand tons of which are hamsa). This is a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.

The association stressed that the research conducted over the past three months confirms that all fish harvested are safe for consumers.
