The European Union will continue to pursue its own independent sanctions policy against Russia, even if the United States decides to lift sanctions against Russia. This opinion was voiced by European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis.

"Taking into account the policy of the new US administration, the EU should take matters of its own security into its own hands, this also applies to sanctions policy," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
