Gold reserves in Russian banks have halved since 2023

As of January 1, 2025, Russian banks had physical gold reserves of 38.1 tons, which is two times lower than in 2023, when a three-year low was recorded. According to the publication, at the beginning of 2025, there were 325.4 billion rubles in bank accounts that reflect balances in stones and precious metals. In 2024, balances on precious metals accounts decreased by 23.6% in monetary terms, and by 46.4% or 33 tons in physical terms.

Market participants noted that in 2024 the volume of transactions with factories and mining enterprises did not fall, however, the high key rate of the Central Bank affected the behavior of customers.
