The defendants in the criminal case on bribes were Sergey Melnikov, head of the administration of the Baltic City District of the Kaliningrad Region, and Maxim Kovalenko, his deputy. They are held under the article "receiving a large-scale bribe" ("c", Part 5, Article 290 of the Criminal Code) and handing over a bribe (paragraph "b", Part 4, Article 291 of the Criminal Code).
According to investigators, Kovalenko, who is suspected of handing over a bribe, gave at least 575 thousand rubles to the head of the company, Sergei Melnikov, after the New Year holidays. The money was intended for "general patronage and connivance in the service," according to the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kaliningrad region.
Both defendants have been detained and are in the status of suspects. Their places of residence and work are being searched.
The operational search activities were conducted by the Kaliningrad Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
