In 2024, Russians made 1.4 million trips to Europe and the UK, which is 10 times less than in 2019, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
Thus, Russians crossed the border with Europe by land about 0.8 million times, mostly for personal and transit purposes. Another 0.6 million citizens used air transport with transfers.
Turkey has become the main transit hub for flights to the EU and the UK. The Association noted that not all trips were made for tourist purposes; many Russians visited Europe on business, for medical treatment, study, visits to relatives and for other reasons.
