Representatives of the travel industry (the Russian Union of Travel Industry, the National Union of the Hospitality Industry, the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers of the Russian Federation, the Russian Hotel Association) opposed the proposal to establish state regulation of prices for accommodation during major events. A corresponding letter was sent to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the press service of the PCT.

Industry representatives stressed that state regulation of prices is appropriate in areas where the cost of goods or services depends on the provision of vital needs of citizens. In their opinion, the implementation of the initiative "will lead out of free market relations&"pricing for hotel services will put businesses in a "discriminatory position" in comparison with other economic entities, which are not subject to state price regulation.

The letter notes that prices in the hotel sector are subject to general economic patterns, they rise during the high tourist season and during mass events. To reduce the additional pressure on prices, the travel industry suggests organizing major international events during the low tourist season.

The reason for writing the letter to the government was the plans of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation to invite market participants to discuss the methodology for calculating marginal prices for hotel services during significant international events, which was prepared by the FAS. A meeting on this issue will be held on December 12.
