In a number of Russian regions, cryptocurrency mining will be banned until 2031. This is reported by «Kommersant»/a>with reference to government materials prepared for the upcoming meeting of the Board of Directors for the development of the electric power industry.
It is assumed that the ban on cryptocurrency mining in some Russian regions will begin to take effect from December 1, 2024 to March 2031. For the cities of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Transbaikalia, the ban will be imposed only for the period of winter peaks - from November to March. A total ban on mining crypts is planned to be established for such regions as the Karachay-Cherkess and Kabardino-Balkarian Republics, North Ossetia-Alania, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, LDNR.According to the Ministry of Energy, large local miners exacerbate energy shortages in these regions. The restriction of mining in them should force miners to move to other regions where there is an excess of energy capacity.
