Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and China on the joint construction of a new railway line. The corresponding document was published on the legal acts portal.

The agreement was signed in Beijing on May 20, 2026. It pertains to the construction of a second main track on the cross-border railway section between Zabaikalsk (a Russian border town) and Manchuria (a Chinese border town). Work will proceed simultaneously from both sides, with the junction point located at the Russian-Chinese state border.

The new section will increase the volume of cargo transported between the border stations of the two countries.
