Russian stainless steel production down 18% year-to-date

In the first half of 2026, Russia produced 70,800 tons of steel, marking an 18.3% decline compared to the same period last year, according to the "Association of Special Steel Consumers and Suppliers" (ASSCS).

Specifically, production of cold-rolled flat products fell by 11.5%, hot-rolled flat products by 14.9%, stainless steel bar products by 16.7%, welded pipes by 20.9%, and seamless pipes by 31.4%.

Russian steel exports, including to Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries, decreased by 16.5% to 14,500 tons over the six-month period. The share of flat products and semi-finished products in total exports rose from 29.7% to 60.3%.

The main export destinations were Kazakhstan, China, and Belarus.
