Ex-Deputy Governors of Belgorod Region Sentenced for Embezzlement

Former Deputy Governors of Belgorod Region Rustem Zainullin and Vladimir Bazarov have been found guilty of embezzling funds allocated for the construction of defensive structures on the border between Belgorod Region and Ukraine, according to TASS citing their lawyer.

The Meshchansky Court in Moscow sentenced Zainullin to 20 years in a strict-regime penal colony and Bazarov to 19 years, with fines of up to 500 million rubles ($6.5 million USD).

Seven other defendants in the case also received prison sentences, with the maximum term being 20 years.
