EU set to ease restrictions in 21st Russia sanctions package - FT

The European Union is ready to make concessions to Greece and waive some restrictions as part of adopting a new 21st sanctions package against Russia, according to sources cited by Financial Times (FT).

Greece is specifically seeking permission for its shipping company Dynagas to continue transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) of Russian origin.

According to the source, the EU may allow the company to transport Russian LNG to third countries for one year with a possible extension, but within the volumes not exceeding the level of 2025.

This decision, which still needs to be approved by the 27 EU member states, highlights growing divisions among alliance members in agreeing on new restrictions against Russia. Earlier, Politico reported that the EU has run out of ideas for new sanctions against Russia, as any further measures would harm the interests of member states. In addition to Greece, Germany and Portugal are seeking exemptions to continue purchasing fish from Russia, while France and Italy are demanding a softening of visa policies, and Austria is insisting on unfreezing assets linked to Raiffeisen Bank.
