Businessman Oleg Deripaska stated that in discussions about the possible purchase of Greenland, the main issue remains not political but financial - the price of the territory and the terms of payment. According to his estimate, the cost of the island could range from 1.5 to 2.5 trillion euros, making the deal extremely burdensome even for the US economy. Deripaska expressed doubt that Washington could pay for such a purchase in a short time frame. In his opinion, even with a stretched payment schedule of five to six years, the financial burden would be excessive. As one of the hypothetical options, he mentioned the possibility of attracting borrowed funds, including from China. The businessman also suggested that a potential deal could lead to unexpected political consequences. In particular, he speculated that Denmark might reconsider its membership in the European Union after selling Greenland. Overall, he said, any potential negotiations around such a scenario are unlikely to go unnoticed and could be resonant and provocative in nature.
