Poland will ban entry to its territory for Russian citizens holding five-year foreign passports starting April 1, 2026. Staying in the country with such a document will be considered illegal, according to the Russian Embassy in Poland. Russians are advised to apply in advance for new ten-year biometric passports to visit Poland. Starting in October 2025, Schengen countries will implement a new control system for crossing the external border by foreign nationals, which will require mandatory submission of biometric data, including facial photos and fingerprints. Starting in 2026, five-year Russian foreign passports will no longer be recognized in Germany. They are also not recognized by the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Iceland, Lithuania, and Latvia.
