In Russia, inflation increased by 1.26% from January 1 to January 12, according to Rosstat. Last year, such inflation rates were observed for the entire month of January (1.23%).
A sharp price hike was recorded for fruits and vegetables, averaging 7.9%. The most significant price increases were seen in cucumbers (+21.3%), tomatoes (+13.6%), and potatoes (+5.8%). Vodka prices also went up (+4.2%), as did pork (+0.9%), beef, frozen fish, and eggs (+0.7%).
Gasoline prices increased by 1.2% in the first days of January, while diesel fuel rose by 1.3%. Domestic cars became more expensive by 1.3%, and imported cars by 1.5%. Prices for smartphones and televisions, however, decreased by 1%.
Public transportation fares also went up: metro rides (+10.7%), tram rides (+5.4%), and city buses and trolleybuses (+3.8%). The cost of housing and communal services increased by 1.1–1.5%.
