Government Prepares New Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the Far Eastern Federal District

The Russian government will develop a new socio-economic development strategy for the Far Eastern Federal District. The draft document is expected to be ready by July 15, 2026. This task was assigned by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin following the strategic session on the development of the Far East.
As part of the strategy, which is planned until 2030 with a forecast until 2036, a socio-economic development model for the region will be formed, taking into account the settlement system and geographical features of the macroregion.
Among other tasks, Mishustin outlined:
- development of an electricity sector development program for the Far Eastern Federal District until 2050 and a gas supply and gasification program for the macroregion until 2036;
- modernization of the Baikal-Amur Mainline (BAM) and Trans-Siberian Railway infrastructure, as well as ensuring the construction and reconstruction of border crossing points in the Far East;
- increasing the number of mobile medical teams and expanding the practice of telemedicine;
- creating a unified model for attracting foreign tourists to the Far East;
- developing coastal fisheries.
