Without holding elections, the authorities in Ukraine will not be able to become legitimate. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Direct Line.

In this regard, according to the President, Russia is ready to consider ensuring security during the voting in Ukraine, or at least refrain from strikes deep into the territory on that day.

At the same time, he noted that if Kiev wants to use the elections to stop the advance of Russian troops, then this is the wrong choice.

Putin also drew attention to the need to respect the rights of Ukrainians living in the territory of the Russian Federation, whom the organizers of the voting should ensure the opportunity to make their choice on an equal footing with their compatriots.
