The first results of the experiment on collecting biometric data from foreigners entering Russia revealed that more than 1,700 citizens attempted to enter the country despite being banned from doing so. These findings were announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov during a meeting of the State Border Commission.
It is known that the experiment began on December 1, 2024. Initially, the technology was implemented at airports in the Moscow aviation hub and at the "Mashtakovo" road checkpoint in the Orenburg region.
According to Manturov, the second phase of the experiment started in June of this year and involves the mobile application "RuID".
"Since the launch of the first phase of the experiment, almost a year has passed. During this time, biometrics has allowed us to identify more than 1,700 foreign citizens who are not allowed to enter our country. At the end of June this year, the second phase began, which provides for the possibility of pre-submission of an entry application by a foreigner in the RuID mobile application," Manturov said.
Now, Denis Manturov is confident that the experiment should be extended to most border crossing points.
