FAS: 164 Municipalities Violated Trade Legislation

Violations of trade legislation have been identified in 164 municipalities across the country. These are the results of a market analysis conducted by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia for the year 2024.

It was noted that retail chains are subject to a 25% market share limit. This measure was introduced to ensure the price accessibility of many food products for citizens and to maintain competition within municipal entities, including small and medium-sized businesses.

The market analysis revealed that in 2023, 164 municipalities opened new or expanded existing retail chain outlets, despite their market share already exceeding the established 25% limit.

As a result, 40 regions have been instructed to conduct an additional analysis. If the violations are confirmed, the service will take appropriate measures.
