The Bank of Russia has published a preliminary assessment of the balance of payments of the Russian Federation for May 2025, with updated data for January-April 2025 as of July 11, 2025.
According to the data provided, the current account surplus in May 2025 amounted to 3.0 billion US dollars, which is slightly lower than in April 2025 (3.6 billion US dollars). The decrease in the surplus is mainly due to an increase in the deficit in the balance of services.
From January to May 2025, the current account surplus decreased to 24.3 billion US dollars compared to the same period in 2024, when the figure was 37.2 billion US dollars. The main reason for this decline was the weakening of the trade balance.
