The EU sanctions against Russia have been extended for the next six months. The relevant decision was made by the EU Council.

The EU Council recalled that sanctions against Russia were first introduced in 2014 and significantly expanded from February 2022. They consist of "a wide range of sectoral measures, including restrictions on trade, finance, energy, technology and dual-use goods, industry, transport and luxury goods."

The import or transshipment of offshore crude oil and some petroleum products from the Russian Federation to the EU is prohibited, a number of Russian banks are disconnected from the SWIFT system, broadcasting activities and licenses of several Russian media outlets in the EU have been suspended. Some of the measures taken allow the EU to counteract the circumvention of sanctions.

"According to the assessment of the Council of the European Union, "it is advisable to keep in force all measures imposed by the EU and, if necessary, take additional measures."
